The prototype Viewliner Sleepers were designed in the late 80s to replace aging heritage equipment. These new cars were designed as a single-level car primarily for eastern routes due to tunnel clearance issues. Production units were built by Amerail/Morrison-Knudsen and entered service in 1995. The cars feature roomettes, bedrooms and an accessible bedroom with space for a wheelchair or mobility device. Still in service in the 21st Century, they're easily spotted by their double row of windows. This run of these cars features a realistic plated finish on the car body with accurate Amtrak paint schemes and graphics officially licensed by Amtrak.
