EMD SD40-2

This Bachmann EMD SD40-2 is based on the one of the most popular road diesels ever built. Constructed from 1972 to 1989, the SD40-2 was by far the most successful of EMD's Dash 2 series of road switchers. More than 4000 were produced, mostly for use within North America, although they have also seen use in Australia, South America, and elsewhere internationally. Their ability to handle both road freight and local switching operations ensures that they remain an essential locomotive for most major freight railroads to this day. The Bachmann SD40-2 of 2022 features a retooled body, Econami(TM) sound and DCC dual-mode decoder (sound functions are limited on DC), and fine decoration in a variety of schemes. Other features include directional headlights, flywheel drive, E-Z Mate(R) Mark II knuckle couplers and wheels suitable for operation on Code 55 and larger rail.
